So, while searching for information on POTA (Parks on the Air) I came across this interesting Site. Talking about a very POTA like competition or awards scheme. Run in the UK but open to all radio operators called BOTA. Which stands for Bunkers on The Air. The competition seems to be very similar to what POTA does. They do have some kind of interface for spotting and logging. Though much more primitive currently. However, it seems most activity is done on 6 meters. Which might explain why we don’t hear them hear. Well, it maybe just me who can’t hear them.
According to the wwbota site BOTA is an amateur radio awards scheme open to radio amateurs and shortwave listeners worldwide.
Also, before I go any further here. Please note there seems to also be a Beaches on the Air as well which will probably causes some confusion. Actually, when I mentioned at a radio meeting, that’s when I found out about beaches on the air. Not sure which came first. However, the site for Beaches On The Air seems un-responsive. (at least for me)
The one issue, I see for us in the United States. Is that we don’t have any presents in the competition. We need to put together a team and see what’s needed to get the U.S. started. I’m in is there anyone who wants to help out. Feel free to contact me.
