Spotting tools, what are you using? I mostly have been doing POTA hunting. So, my main spotting app is HamRS. Which I really love. It makes hunting simple. Plus, it will scan through the spots as well and has many filtering options. HamRS will also copy the relevant info into your log when you complete the contact. However, it doesn’t support spots for non-POTA operations. Hopefully they will add that support to it soon.
I have tried another app FLCluster. However, it’s pretty old school and requires FLDigi and FLRig to work. Nor does it send the contact to HamRS which is my main logging software. But I kind of like that it can tie into many clusters at once. It also will set the rigs frequency to the spots. But no automatic scanning of spots.
Others that I have looked at are DxWatch a website and HamAlert for phone OSes. HamAlert is focused on IOS and Android only. which I don’t understand. It seems to me that they should also support a simple Win 64 app. the app could run in your desktop tray and give you a popup alert. Or at the very least a browser alert when. I get that people like to get notified when they are away from their radio via their phone. But not to have any support for desktop OS’s seems wrong.
I want to hear from my readers what you are using. Why you use it and do you feel it is adequate for your needs or could it be better. This is a short post but i would like to hear from my readers.
